New windows 10 feature – better security

The New Year comes with fresh creations. For instance, Microsoft recently announced that they are working on a new Windows 10 feature. It will automatically lock and secure your computer.  When the operating system detects that you’ve moved away from the device, the feature will activate. It is now called “Dynamic Lock” and Windows Central reports that Microsoft refers to this as “Windows Goodbye”. Because they are internally connecting it to the existing “Windows Hello”.

For those of you who are not aware, at the moment, Microsoft uses special Windows Hello cameras to let Windows 10 users log into a PC with just their face.

Since data safety is of such importance both for personal and for professional use, we all really need a way to protect our information. Some companies, for example, advise their employees to use the “windows key + L” combination to lock machines when they’re not using them, but this new feature will make the whole process automatic –  meaning faster and easier. Awesome, right?

Yet, there is no clarity yet on HOW Microsoft will detect inactivity, but Zac Bowden from WindowsCentral writes:

“We’re not exactly sure what Windows will look for to determine if you’re no longer present at your device as Microsoft is yet to document this feature. It could simply be a rebranded version of “after 15 minutes of inactivity, lock my device”. Rather it could be a much more ‘dynamic’ feature, utilizing Windows Hello enabled equipment, proximity sensors and more to detect if a user is present and determine how long they’ve been away for.”

However they decide to do it, we will be happy to see it work soon.

And Microsoft is planning to include Dynamic Lock in the Windows 10 Creators Update, expected to arrive in April.
